Everything Solange said on Twitter this morning is pretty true. It’s something I’ve been considering recently, but mostly with hip hop criticism. I think it’s impossible to be an expert anymore at any genre BUT it’s wildly important for people who consider themselves professional critics to take in account more than just their personal opinion but the history of the genre, as much as humanly possible at least.
